Masai Mara Safari
Thursday, June 4, 2009
The Masai Mara, named after the Maasai tribespeople who originally inhabited the area and the Mara river whose flowing waters dissect the plains, plays host to a wide variety of game and birdlife. It is famous for the numbers in which some of these animals can be found, especially during the annual migration season (July to October). Every year this most impressive of natural world events occurs when game congregated in the South of the Serengeti take their cue from the April/May rainfall in and make their Northward journey from the short grass plains into the Masai Mara. The sight of more than 2 million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson's gazelle stampeding through the dust and grass and across shallow river crossings is something to behold; something you can experience for yourself on our masai mara safari. As the mass of migrating game snakes across the Masai Mara they bring with them predators who have been patiently waiting for their moment to strike since the mass congregation in the Serengeti. Lions, cheetahs and leopards can be witnessed, along with the scavenging approach of the spotted hyena. Taking Masai Mara safaris will also give you the opportunity to see African elephants, cape buffalo, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, Masai giraffe as well as common giraffe, antelope, bat-eared foxes and more than 450 species of wild bird. This is an experience not possible anywhere else in the world and we would implore you not to miss it.
