Mara Migration Safaris

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

A safari holiday is always exciting, no matter when you go or where you go. And the really amazing thing is that no two trips are alike, ever! Although I run my African safaris to an itinerary I adopt a flexible approach in order that you get the most out of your trip. As I always say, make the most of the opportunities that arise. Life in the wild doesn't run to a schedule so why should we? If we're camped at a spot where the game activity is thriving we wouldn't dream of moving on, just in order that we stick to a previously worked out agenda. This is never more relevant than on Mara migration safaris.

The Mara River runs through Kenya and Tanzania and straight across the annual migration path of the various wild animals of the Masai Mara Reserve. We set up camp right in the heart of the Mara, amongst trees and out of sight. The camp overlooks the Olare Orok River and the mess tent has a particularly great view of a hippopotamus bathing pool, which is fantastic fun to watch during the evening camp fires.

We would usually hope to see various animals and birds on Mara migration safaris; elephants, lions, leopards and the aforementioned hippos. There are a multitude of birds on display here too; green pigeons, black and white casqued hornbills, woodland kingfishers, pied kingfishers and giant kingfishers are just a few of the species we've seen here on previous safaris.

If you are interested in experiencing an old fashioned safari on the Masai Mara to watch the wondrous migration sights then our camp is perfect for you. Situated within a half hour drive of every place worth visiting these are "Yesterday's Safaris Today".
